Job Summary:
The Railway Engineer (Mechanical) will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of mechanical systems and components essential to the operation of railway systems. This role requires a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles and their application to railway infrastructure, rolling stock, and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop mechanical systems for railway projects, including locomotives, rolling stock, and associated equipment.
2. Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing mechanical systems and identify areas for improvement or modification.
3. Perform calculations, simulations, and analysis to ensure mechanical systems meet specified requirements, safety standards, and industry regulations.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into railway projects.
5. Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and schematics for mechanical components and systems.
6. Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to evaluate alternative mechanical solutions and recommend optimal approaches.
7. Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations in the design and implementation of mechanical systems.
8. Monitor and evaluate the performance of mechanical systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions as required.
9. Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop maintenance plans and procedures for mechanical equipment, ensuring their efficient operation and longevity.
10. Stay updated with advancements and innovations in railway mechanical engineering, and propose their implementation to enhance performance and safety.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2. Proven experience in railway engineering, specifically in mechanical systems design and development.
3. Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and structural analysis.
4. Proficiency in using engineering software and tools for design and analysis, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS, and MATLAB.
5. Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as AREMA, AAR, and FRA.
6. Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
7. Strong analytical and technical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
8. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical information and collaborate with various stakeholders.
9. Ability to work independently and within a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Solid organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
